The Inspire Peer Mentoring Program seeks to increase school retention rates in Adelaide’s southern suburbs and develop a stronger learning culture.
Flinders is committed to access and equity and we offer a number of special entry schemes to encourage mature-age students and those from under-represented groups. These include our innovative Foundation Course, which serves as an introduction to university study and a possible pathway to further study at Flinders.
We believe universities must play a broader community role in encouraging learning. Through our southern suburbs initiative Southern Program for Improved Participation in Education (SPIPE) and our partnership with Schools and Community Agencies we are helping students to complete high school and make the transition to work or further study.
Our students are working as mentors in a number of high schools in a joint initiative with the Onkaparinga Secondary Schools Cluster.
Flinders has strong links with TAFE SA, including credit transfer arrangements. A Memorandum of Understanding allows us to work closely together to create flexible study options.
The Australian Science and Mathematics School is a joint venture between Flinders and the South Australian Government. It is the first school in Australia to be fully integrated with a university campus.
We host the annual Tournament of Minds competition, which brings thousands of primary and secondary students to our campus every year.
Flinders has strong links with public, independent and Catholic schools throughout South Australia. Annually, our Prospective Student advisor's visit schools across the State, run campus tours for groups and accept invitations to speak at metropolitan school career nights and tertiary information days. Information on these services is available for schools .
