Overview

Flinders University’s cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) programs provide you with clinical competencies and research skills in CBT for high prevalence psychological disorders.

You will gain clinical training opportunities through industry practicums modelled around a clinical supervision framework.

Competency-based assessment programs, seminars and workshops are delivered by respected and recognised clinical and research academics, and guest lecturers who are experts in CBT.

You will have the opportunity to develop knowledge in areas such as comorbid mental health disorders, high prevalence psychological disorders, and gambling disorders, and skills in areas such as behavioural activation, and motivational interviewing.

The courses are suited to new allied health graduates and health professionals who are committed to ongoing professional development and personal growth using accountable and ethical practice principles.

They are suitable preparation for those interested in pursuing private practice, or advancing their knowledge and skills in CBT.

Collectively, these courses offer developing, expanding and advanced levels of qualification through an integrated program of theory, clinical practicums and research opportunities.

At the completion of the masters, you will have obtained and demonstrated advanced competencies in CBT and be able to deliver focused psychological therapies to improve people’s lives.

What will I study?

Refer to the course rule:

Entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold an approved undergraduate degree or equivalent in a health-related area – eg behavioural science, counselling, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology or social work.

However, the Faculty Board may under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.

International students: Entry and English language requirements

Immunisation and Communicable Diseases: Requirements for Clinical Placements

This course includes clinical placements which aim to provide students with the practical experience required for the workplace. Students on placement have both an increased risk of most vaccine preventable diseases as well as the potential to transmit infections to susceptible patients. Students who are required to complete clinical placements as part of their course must therefore be immunised in accordance with the relevant State or Territory immunisation  standards (e.g. Health Immunisation for Health Care Workers in South Australia 2014 Policy Guideline)  and any additional private provider requirements as needed.
