Nvivo and Nud*ist

QSR provides software for qualitative research and analysis. The products are Nvivo versions 7 and 8, NVivo version 2, N6 (the latest in the NUD*IST line) and N4 Classic.

New Release! - Nvivo Version 8

This new version of Nvivo replaces the separate products Nvivo 7.

Nvivo 8 System Requirements - Minimum

1 GHz Pentium III-compatible processor or faster
256Mb ram or more
800x600 screen resolution or higher
Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 or later
Approximately 700Mb of available hard disk space

Nivio 8 System Requirements - Recommended

1.6GHz Pentium III-compatible processor or faster
512Mb ram or more
1024x768 screen resolution or higher
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher
Approximately 1Gb of available hard disk space
Internet Connection

If you are working on a larger project with, for example, 5000 documents, then the recommended system requirements above would be necessary.

Licence Keys for Version 8

Nvivo v8 is a separately licensed product. If you already have Nvivo v7 you may also run Nvivo v8 but you will need to either completely remove the older application and replace it with Nvivo v8 or purchase a new licence.

Licence Type

This is an annual renewable volume-discount licence beginning on 1 March each year. During the term of the licence the University is entitled to all new versions and minor upgrades at no additional charge. This is a licence to use the software and at no time does the University own a copy of the software provided under this agreement.

At the termination of the licence, all copies of the software covered by the licence must be deleted. People wishing to continue using QSR software must then make separate arrangements with QSR. See QSR International.

Licence Costs

The annual fee for each licence is met by the University Department making the request.

Approach the representative in your faculty/department to see whether there are any unused licences or whether extra licences need to be purchased. If you wish to use the software, your department must find the funding for the licence; this is not a centrally funded site licence.

Hardware

All QSR software is supported on PC for Windows operating systems (Windows Me, 2000 and XP) with the exception of N4 Classic. The only software which runs on the Macintosh platform is N4 Classic, which is only supported for Mac OS 7.x to Mac OS 9.x (Mac OS X is not supported).

Workplace Use

Available for installation on:

computers used by staff employed by Flinders University
computers used by staff with current formal academic status granted by Flinders University
computers used by students currently enrolled at Flinders University
laboratory computers, ie computers shared by students as part of their course work.

Home Use

Where the QSR product is installed on a "dedicated use" University computer (ie. not a laboratory computer), a copy of the software can be made and installed on the person's home computer at no additional cost.

Home Use Licence

The right to use QSR software at home ceases immediately upon termination of employment at Flinder University. A condition of the licence is that the software must be completely removed from your computer should your formal association with Flinders end.

Support

The licence does not include individual assistance for users of the product. Your local computing support staff can assist with installation of the product on your workplace computer. Support for home computers is not provided.
