About Sophos Anti-Virus
Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OSX 10.2 and higher enables users to update remotely via the internet. Updates are downloaded, either manually or automatically, from central installation directories (CIDs) on the University's web server.
Installation of Sophos-AV
- Download the Sophos installer (Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg) to a folder on your computer. If the disk image does not automatically mount on the desktop double click the downloaded file and then run the installer from the desktop. Accept all the default settings.
- Once Sophos is installed an icon (shield) is displayed in the Menu at the top right side of your screen. Click on this icon and then select "Open Preferences"
- Click the "AutoUpdate" tab
- then select the "Primary Server" tab
- Select "Company Web Server" and enter
http://downloads.flinders.edu.au/sophos/ESOSX
(case sensitive) in the URL field. - then enter your Flinders Authentication Name (FAN) in the User Name field and your FAN password in the password field. These will be the same as your Flinders email login name and password.
- Click Set.
- Now click on the Sophos Shield and select Update Now.
The Auto Update application will now go to the Flinders web site and download and install any updates for Sophos.
Post Installation
Check all other Preference settings and change them to suit your requirements.
It is a good idea to force Sophos to do a complete scan of your disk after you have installed the software. From there it is sufficient to use it in on-access mode (i.e. when you attempt to open a file it checks for viruses first).
Please go to Sophos.com for full documentation on all the Sophos products.
You will be challenged for your authentication code and password when you click the download button.
