Sophos Install - Windows

Make sure that you have removed any other AntiVirus software already installed on your computer before you proceed

Installation

• Download the Sophos Anti-Virus installer appropriate for your operating system to a folder on your computer.
• Double click the file to run the installer (if the installer does not run, check to make sure the installer file has a .exe file extension. If not, rename the file to add .exe to the end of the file name).
• Accept all the default settings.
• When prompted for Update Source enter one of the following addresses:

The Automatic Update application will now go to the Flinders web site and download and install any recent updates for Sophos AntiVirus.

Post Installation

By default, Sophos AntiVirus will only report on viruses it discovers on your computer, it will not take any action to delete or move the virus. You must configure these options after installation.

Start Sophos AntiVirus (Start / Programs /Sophos). Select Configure Sophos Anti-Virus and check all settings to make sure they suit your requirements.

It is a good idea to set Sophos to do a full scan of your local disks after the software is installed. Then it is usually sufficient to use it in on-access mode (i.e. when you attempt to open a file it checks for viruses first).

Please note that the installation of this software on a computer may require that you have the administrator password for that computer. If you do not have such access you will need to contact your local computer support staff to assist with the installation.
