Centre for Marine Bioproducts Development

The Centre for Marine Bioproducts Development is focussed on the research and development, innovation, education and commercialisation of marine bioprocess technologies and bioproducts.

Our aim is to become a focal point in Australia with these technologies and products for sustainable and profitable seafood and functional foods, marine bioproducts and biomaterials, biomedicine, and marine biofuels industries.

The Centre is the first facility and grouping of expertise of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a bold initiative by Flinders University, one of Australia’s top research universities.

Functioning since 2007, the Centre is about creating collaborations and networks with like-minded researchers and industry partners.

Rapid Production of drug delivery vehicles (nanoparticles) (Sept 2018)

Drug delivery could be made easier and cheaper by the use of nanoparticles. CMBD PhD student Xuan Luo collaborated with the Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology to use the Vortex Fluidic Device (VFD) to create nanoparticles that can be used in drug delivery, using cheap starting materials. Bio-products and Biotechnology CRC bid could be a boost for Australia's blue bio-economy (July 2018)
