Members of the Department provide clinical services in Haematology to Flinders Medical Centre and the Repatriation General Hospital, as well as a consultative service to general practitioners in the Southern region of Adelaide. The clinical strengths of the Department are particularly in thrombosis and in haematological malignancy. An Apheresis Service is provided and Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation is about to commence. Allogeneic transplantation is not performed.
The Department provides a full diagnostic Haematology Service to Flinders Medical Centre, the Repatriation General Hospital and to general practitioners in the Southern region of Adelaide. The Department is particularly strong in molecular haematology and diagnosis is provided for various translocations and gene rearrangements, and thrombophilia. A diagnostic service in Molecular Pathology is also provided. This includes genetic testing for Huntington's disease, haemochromatosis, and familial breast and colon cancer. There is a strong commitment to expansion of molecular diagnosis.
