Playford Food Alliance

Staff involved: Catherine Hurley

The Playford Food Alliance is a project being conducted at the Playford Community Health Centre and externally evaluated by SACHRU. Its aim is:"to develop and document a model that researches and identifies strategies to achieve co-ordination between key stakeholders across sectors leading to improved food security in the Peachey Belt."

The project conducted a forum "Food in the North" for service providers and community members along with a food expo "Share the Harvest" on 30th of April, 2004. These activities were evaluated using surveys completed by participants from three groups: forum participants, expo stallholders and school teachers, and via a scribble board, written on by community members visiting the expo. Analysis of the surveys showed that both activities were very successful in promoting networking among participants and increasing knowledge and awareness of food security issues. The remainder of the project will be looking at producing a directory of local food services for distribution and conducting community mapping exercises. The final evaluation will include interviews with the project management group and community consultation group members.
