Policy Club 8 December 2016

"If mindfulness is the new medication, are there any side effects?"

Dr Leigh Burrows, A/Professor Kathy Arthurson and Dr Jessie Gunson were guest presenters at the Southgate Policy Club held on Thursday, 8 December 2016. A panel discussion featuring Dr Matt Fisher and Susan Cameron followed their presentations and involved further discussion with members of the audience.

Policy Club 17 November 2016


Southgate Institute's Policy Club was recently held at Flinders University, Bedford Park campus, and was presented by Professor Alison Phipps, University of Glasgow. The title of her presentation was 'The impact of detention on the wellbeing of asylum seekers: a UK and European perspective.'

8th Southgate Oration 20 October 2016


The 8th Southgate Oration was held on Thursday, 20 October 2016. The Orator was Alastair McEwin, Commissioner Disability Discrimination whose presentation was titled 'Achieving the right to health for people with disabiity: eliminating discrimination in a changing world.'

ARC Project Policy Forum 19 May 2016

Southgate Institute's Policy Forum titled "Health and wellbeing as whole of society concerns" was held on Thursday 19 May 2016 at Flinders in the City, Adelaide. It included presentations from Professor Dame Margaret Whitehead and Professor Dora Marinova.

Policy Club 3 May 2016

Southgate Institute recently held a Policy Club titled "Not-so-free' trade, investment and health: Focus on the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement?" presented by Professor Ron Labonte, on Tuesday, 3 May 2016. Professor Labonte holds a Canada Research Chair in the area of Globalization and Health Equity at the University of Ottawa, and was the Chair of the Globalization Knowledge Network for the WHO Commission on the Social Determinants of Health. He co-led with Prof David Sanders an international study on Comprehensive Primary Health Care (2007-2011). Prof Labonté is a founding member, and past Board Chair, of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research, and a past Director of the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit.
