Research performance

Research activity at Flinders is expanding rapidly - as one indication, our research income has increased by 36% over the last 2 years. Flinders researchers earned nearly $37 million in 2006 in external research grants.

In 2007, we were awarded new funding of:

  • around $5 million from the Australian Research Council, and
  • more than $6 million from the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Collaborative research - with both industry and government agencies - is an increasingly important component of our research activity and earnings, and accounted for about $23 million of our research income in 2006. Success in collaborative research with industry  has, in some cases, been established from initial internal funding through the Flinders Collaborative Research Grant Scheme

Sources of research income in 2006

The following graph indicates that our 3 main areas of research funding in 2006 were:

  • public sector funding 34%
  • Australian competitive grants 37%
  • industry and other funding 27%
  • CRC Income 2%
