Flinders Business School has opportunities for both permanent and casual staff

Jobs: permanent

Flinders Business School regularly advertises academic positions in business disciplines. When we do, we advertise in major newspapers and on the web; we also list the vacancies here and on the Flinders HR jobs webpage (http://www.flinders.edu.au/employment/).

Jobs: casual

Each semester Flinders Business School employs casual staff to complement the permanent teaching team. From time to time opportunities are available for new casual staff.

What casual staff arrangements are available?

Casual staff opportunities at Flinders Business School include any or a combination of the following activities:

  • lecturing
  • tutoring
  • lab demonstration
  • marking

The minimum involvement is several hours a week in one topic during a semester. More extensive casual academic involvement may also be available.

Normally, remuneration is made on the basis of casual academic staff hourly rates and is paid via timesheet through Flinders payroll.

How are casual staff selected and appointed?

Flinders Business School appoints casual staff when required on the basis of a formal application and interview. Casual staff interviews are held prior to the start of semester. Casual staff appointments are made from the list of successful interviewees as and when casual vacancies arise.

When appointing casual staff we are looking for people who have appropriate qualifications, experience and good communication skills. Experience in teaching and work experience are an advantage. Preference is given to PhD and Honours students.

Flinders Business School uses the following selection criteria for casual staff:

  • academic qualifications (normally a minimum of a Bachelor degree in a business discipline)
  • teaching experience (normally at university level)
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • relevant work experience
  • a high grade point average in relevant degree (particularly for applicants without significant work experience)

How to apply?

Register your interest by completing the Registration of Interest form and emailing it with your CV and statement addressing the selection criteria to fbs@flinders.edu.au.

FBS reviews epressions of interest and interviews selected applicants twice per year, usually April-June and November-January.

FBS is currently interested in expressions of interest in the following areas:

  • Finance (financial management, investments, derivatives and risk management)
  • HRM (training and development, recruitment and selection)
  • Advanced financial accounting

Applicants for casual work in other areas may also provide an expression of interest for future consideration.
