The Graduate Program in Public Administration

Created in 1986, the Graduate Program in Public Administration now encompasses degree programs including graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, two coursework masters, a research masters and PhDs.  The program is designed and regularly reviewed, with the needs of current and future public sector employees in mind.  The program includes part time and full time students from Australia and more than 10 other countries.  During their studies, students can choose to focus on public policy, public management, or a mixture of both in their degree choices.  Subjects are offered on campus at Bedford Park and in the Adelaide CBD and in distance mode.

The Graduate Program hosts the Executive Master of Public Administration (Executive MPA).  The EMPA is the primary offering of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government, a collaboration between governments and tertiary institutions in Australia and New Zealand.  The Executive MPA is a multi-disciplinary degree of ten subjects, with core subjects provided by ANSOG and electives offered by participating Universities.  It provides students with the opportunity to network and learn with interstate and New Zealand counterparts.  The degree is designed for senior managers who are nominated and funded by the South Australian State Government.

The Graduate Program is responsible for the assessment and accreditation of the Australia-wide Public Sector Management Program.  Participants from all states and territories undertake workshops locally to earn a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management.

In 2011, the program will include intesive offerings (3-4 day long intensive topic deliveries) in the following topics:

POAD9034 Risk Management - Principles and Practice

POAD9037 Financial Management
