Research funding opportunities for staff

Please Note: Due to the University Restructure the School will only be holding one round of funding for 2017.  Closing date is 5.00 p.m. Wednesday 8 March 2017.

Applications should be in PDF and emailed to sonja.yates@flinders.edu.au.

This site provides access to the application forms for School research funding for SHIR staff.

All staff research funding schemes other than Study Leave, Flinders Research Grants and Establishment Grants, have been devolved to the School. The Faculty provides administrative and management support for the devolved schemes.

The School of History and International Relations provides two basic schemes:

  • conference attendance and travel funding
    • in Australia and
    • Overseas
  • project funding which includes
    • Visiting Research Fellowships
    • conference and workshop facilitation
    • publication support and
    • small research projects

The SHIR research funding application process

Download and fillout either Staff Conference or Staff Project application form.

CVs or lists of publications are no longer required with each application as these will be checked instead on the University-wide RMIS . You will be asked to confirm in your application that all of your publications have been entered into the RMIS.

Accountability for funds received has increased. Applicants need to commit to the production of high-quality outputs as a part of the application process. Every application for funding of any sort must now include a completed Outcomes Form, identifying the planned research output (usually a publication), and the timetable by which it will be completed.

Project grants (up to $3000)

This scheme is designed to support projects not suitable for external funding either because of their size or because of a lack of funding opportunities in the area. Applications to this scheme may also be made for matching funds (up to the limit of the scheme) provided by an external agency.

Projects for which funds may be applied under this scheme may include pilot projects (smaller discreet projects whose viability for large grant funding is being explored).

Small grants (up to $2,000 unless otherwise indicated)

Individual grants are intended to support small, low-cost research projects with immediately foreseeable outcomes. Small grants may include funding for:

  • Support for Conference organisation;
  • Costs associated with publication (eg. administrative assistance, research assistance, indexing and editing costs directly related to publications);
  • Visiting Research Fellow (return air fare and modest maintenance support to a maximum of $3,000);
  • Research maintenance (software subscription, survey costs, mileage);
  • Research Assistance.

Reporting

Final reports are required by the School Research Committee on all projects funded by the School at the end of the funding period.  Select the appropriate form below and, when completed, deliver to the School Manager.
