Students can complete a major or minor sequence in Women's Studies, or enrol in any single topic in the Women's Studies undergraduate program as part of their course , providing that the rules of that course permits enrolment.

Major sequence in Women's Studies

Students can enrol in a major sequence in Women's Studies as part of their BA degree, the Bachelor of Behavioural Sciences degree or any of the Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Arts double degrees.

A major sequence in Women's Studies consists of at least 33 units of Women's Studies topics, comprising 9 units of first year level (which may include any 4.5 unit first level topic which counts towards any other Arts major sequence) and 24 units of upper level topics which must include WMST 3010.

The third year level topic WMST 3010 Thinking Through the Body  is compulsory. The topics may be taken in any order. There are no prerequisites.

Minor sequence in Women's Studies

Students who are enrolled in the BA or BBehavSc or the Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Arts double degrees, can take a minor sequence in Women's Studies.

A minor sequence in Women's Studies consists of at least 21 units of Women's Studies topics, comprising 9 units at first year level and 12 units from upper level topics. The topics may be taken in any order. There are no prerequisites. There is no compulsory topic.

WMST3009     Sexualities: Perspectives, Pleasures, Politics

WMST2014     Media and Cultural Identities: Gender, Race and Sexuality

To complete the 24 units of upper level topics for the Women's Studies major students may take 6 units from the following topics:

SOAD3005     Access and Equity: Social Issues in Public Policy (Semester 2)

SOCI2022     Sociology of Intimacy (Semester 2)

SOCI2006     Gender and Sexuality (Semester 2)

LLAW3266     Women's Rights and the International Protection of Human Rights (Semester 1)

 

Or by special arrangement wit the Head of Women's Studies, a gender based topic from another academic unit.

*Students may not count both WMST1001 and WMST2012 towards their degree.
