Internal transfer

As an undergraduate or postgraduate student at Flinders University, it is possible to apply to transfer to the majority of our courses by submitting an internal transfer application.

If you have studied at another institution and wish to transfer to Flinders University, or the course is not available for internal transfer, you will need to apply via the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC).

Courses not available for internal transfer

International students apply for internal transfer through Flinders International. Please contact Flinders International for more information.

Domestic students

Applications are assessed on a continual basis, please check your Student Management system default email inbox regularly for updates on your application.

You are encouraged to apply for your preferred course through the internal transfer process if you:

did not get an offer to your preferred course through SATAC and have since completed one semester of full-time equivalent study to be considered on your Grade Point Average;
wish to combine your current Bachelor degree with an approved combined degree option;
wish to transfer to a new version of your course if significant changes have been made.

All applications received will be assessed against the minimum academic requirements and any additional requirements to be met including topic pre-requisites, portfolio/audition, work experience, etc for entry.

Flinderslink – guaranteed entry

Flinderslink offers guaranteed entry to current undergraduate Flinders University students who wish to transfer to another Bachelor degree, and have achieved the required Grade Point Average after one full-time equivalent year of study in another Flinders Bachelor degree. This is a good option if you don’t get your first preference or if you decide to change career direction. Any additional requirements also need to be met.

Combining your degree

Combining Bachelor degrees is a great way to pursue multiple passions and broaden your career opportunities. Combined Bachelor degrees give you an advantage for employment in competitive and rapidly changing workplaces, both in Australia and overseas.

If you want to study an approved combined degree option you can apply through the internal transfer process.

Course specific internal transfer information

Flinders Foundation Studies to uni transfer

If you successfully complete the Flinders Foundation Studies program, you can apply to study your preferred Bachelor degree.

While selection for most courses is competitive, entry is guaranteed into some courses.

Bachelor of Letters

Students who are currently admitted to a Bachelor degree, can apply to complete a second study area within the Bachelor of Letters. Consisting of only 36 units, the course is normally studied part-time over three years thus adding one extra year to your overall program of study.

Specialisations are available in:

Creative Writing
History
Mathematics
Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL).

Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science)/Master of Optometry (Year 2 Entry) - No longer offered

This pathway is no longer offered from 2023.

Students should apply for the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Vision Science) / Master of Optometry through SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre).

Bachelor of Education degrees

Students wishing to apply for an Education degree must submit a Teaching Capabilities Statement with their application.

Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Year 3 Entry) - No longer offered

This pathway is no longer offered from 2024.

Applicants should apply for the Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics through SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre).

Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Effects and Entertainment Design)

Direct applications for this course are open for:

1) applicants who will be completing the course in Sydney or Melbourne (and are not current Year 12's); or

2) applicants who wish to transfer from another Flinders course to this course; or

3) applicants who have completed at least one semester of full-time study in one of the following Flinders courses:

Bachelor of Information Technology (Digital Media)*
Bachelor of Creative Industries (Interactive Design)

If the above is not relevant to you, you are required to apply for the course via SATAC.

Applicants applying for the Sydney or Melbourne course will need to select the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Effects and Entertainment Design) at Bedford Park when applying. They will be able to enrol into the Sydney and Melbourne topics after receiving an offer.

*This course is no longer offered.

Postgraduate course internal transfer

Current postgraduate Flinders students are able to apply to transfer to another postgraduate course internally, unless it is included in the courses not available for internal transfer list.

Bachelor graduates who wish to apply for a postgraduate course are required to apply via SATAC.

Application outcome

All communication regarding your application, including offers or additional information required, will be sent to your ‘preferred’ email address in the Student Information System, so make sure your preferred email is up to date when submitting your application. Flinders City Campus Courses

Only Year 1 and 2 topics are being offered at Flinders City Campus in 2025. If you have been granted credit, or wish to apply for credit transfer for the course you are transferring into based on previous study, you will not be able to enrol in Year 3 topics (or higher) or on a full-time basis until 2026.

Credit transfer for students transferring from one Flinders course to another

If you have successfully completed topics in a course at Flinders University and have been successful in your application to transfer to another course at Flinders, you may wish to apply for credit transfer.

Whilst completed core topics for the new course transfer across automatically, any other topics will need to be considered by lodging an application. As an existing Flinders student, you will not be required to provide an academic transcript or syllabus.

Inherent requirements

The course(s) you are applying for may have inherent requirements to meet during your studies. You should ensure you are aware of these when applying.

How to apply

Follow the steps outlined in the Direct Application Guide to apply for an internal transfer at Flinders.

An application can be made for up to 3 courses in order of preference. You will be assessed for entry to the course you are eligible for per your preferences.

Important information

Not all courses are available from one semester to the next. Check the courses not available for internal transfer to determine if you can apply internally or if you need to submit your application through SATAC.
