Professor Raymond Chan

Professor Raymond Chan commenced as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) in January 2024, after joining Flinders University in 2021 as the Caring Futures Institute Director and Matthew Flinders Professor of Cancer Care, Systems and Policy.

Professor Chan is an award-winning clinician-researcher and an international leader in cancer survivorship, models of care, and policy. His own research has identified evidence-practice gaps in unmet care needs in people after their cancer treatment, making him ideally placed to understand Flinders’ goal of changing lives and changing the world.

He is a current NHMRC Investigator Fellow and has published more than 220 peer-reviewed articles and two book chapters. In total, he has received more than $37 million of research funding as Chief Investigator (and more than $20 million AUD as Principal Chief Investigator), including multiple successful National Health Medical Research Council and Medical Research Future Fund applications and government contracts.

Professor Chan is a well-respected research leader with prestigious ministerial appointment as member on the NHMRC Research Committee. He is also currently a national advisor for the Australian Government’s national agency for cancer control.
