Impact Seed Funding for Early Career Researchers
As well as wanting to help you get a good night’s sleep, Professor Danny Eckert is passionate about supporting up and coming researchers at Flinders University.
Director of Adelaide Institute of Sleep Health (AISH) at Flinders University, Professor Eckert leads a cutting-edge clinical sleep research program, which he says has the potential to revolutionise the way sleep disorders are diagnosed and treated.
“We hope to positively transform the lives of literally millions of people globally,” says Professor Eckert.
With a powerful vision in place, he is proud of his team of researchers and what they have achieved so far.
“We have done a lot of work to identify the different causes of sleep apnoea – a common but chronic health condition – which we have been able to resolve with a range of effective new therapies and precision medicine approaches.
Professor Danny Eckert says, “Impact Seed Funding is a very practical way that I can support the next generation of researchers to thrive.”
“I am very fortunate to lead the best sleep research team on the planet, and I have the pleasure of working with terrific up and coming researchers who bring so much energy and enthusiasm to their work.”
But Professor Eckert is concerned about the loss of potential when early career researchers don’t get that first grant that launches their research career.
“There are so many bright, talented and motivated early career researchers who have the potential to shape our future for the better. Yet funding is insufficient – which means we often lose some of the best minds to other careers.”
That’s why he believes supporting Flinders University’s Impact Seed Funding for Early Career Researchers grant program is so important.
By funding an early career researcher’s first independent study, the program enables them to mature their leadership capabilities, build their reputation by forming collaborative partnerships, plus springboard to larger projects and greater grant opportunities.
Professor Eckert says, “It’s crucial that we do whatever we can to support our early career researchers. My hope is that my contribution will be one of many that collectively helps early career researchers to get that first break and on their way to a successful research career."
You can provide critical support for our early career researchers to explore new ground in research that changes lives and improves our community.
100% of your tax-deductible donation will support the work of emerging researchers through Flinders University’s Impact Seed Funding grant program.
