Support for the Flinders University Museum of Art
Across 23 years Emeritus Professor Anne Edwards AO (DLitt ’07) has supported the Flinders University Museum of Art as a donor and as Vice-Chancellor.
From 2001 to 2007 Professor Edwards was the Vice-Chancellor of Flinders University. During this time, she became an advocate for the Art Museum and its important role in enriching the cultural education of students at Flinders.
‘When I took up my position at the University, I was very excited to discover Flinders had such an impressive collection of Indigenous art,’ says Professor Edwards. ‘I took an active interest in the program of exhibitions and the public profile of the Art Museum.’
Professor Edwards also supported the expansion of the Art Museum activities and acquisition of new works.
‘We set up a senior women’s support group whose donations allowed the University to purchase new works by Aboriginal women artists.’
Professor Edwards has stayed connected with the Art Museum and the collection she has helped to foster over many years as a donor.
‘Its unique collection of artworks have become a distinctive and much-valued part of Flinders as a cultural institution and we should support it for the benefit of staff, students and the wider community.’
The Flinders University Museum of Art now has the opportunity to build its collection with a significant acquisition of a collaborative series of ten black and white photographs overlaid with coloured drawings. The Forgotten Wars – Series II is by award winning, South Australian trained artists, James Tylor and Laura Wills.
With an interest in supporting work by Indigenous artists and female artists, Professor Edwards hopes that by donating to the acquisition of new works, she will contribute to the creative development of the collection and the activities of the Art Museum.
You can also donate today to support the acquisition of this important series. 100% of your donation will go towards purchasing these works for the FUMA collection.
