Students who have completed to a sufficiently high standard (a GPA of 5.5 or higher) a Bachelor of Education degree (or an equivalent approved qualification) may apply to undertake an Honours degree in Education
The course is offered by the Faculty of Education, Humanities and Law.
Admission requirements
In addition to student GPA, admission will depend upon the School of Education being able to provide adequate resources to supervise and manage the proposed research project.
As a full-year program, the general requirement of the Honours program in Education is the successful completion of 36 units of Honours Education topics including 18 units of Education thesis.
Course aims
The aims of the BEd Honours year include:
- To allow competent students to extend their undergraduate career by demonstrating their ability to work in a research environment;
- To provide students experience in a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies and analysis;
- To provide a pathway for research-oriented undergraduates to pursue postgraduate research study;
- To provide students experience in applying basic knowledge to specific problems and prepare them for a career in research and development;
- To provide students with fundamental research skills and principles that can be used beyond a research setting.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) students will:
- demonstrate cognitive skills to exercise critical thinking and judgement in developing new understanding;
- demonstrate research skills to review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge and identify and provide solutions to complex problems; and
- demonstrate the ability to plan, carry out and report on an in-depth analytical research study in an area of educational interest.
