The International Foundation Studies Program will give you the skills and qualifications you need for entry to a Flinders bachelor’s degree. You’ll get the best preparation for university life by studying the Foundation Studies program, located in the heart of the Flinders Bedford Park campus – making you a Flinders student from day one.

Using university level examples and scenarios to teach English, numeracy, study skills and provide learning in key areas related to a student’s destination degree – you're set up to succeed.

Successful completion of Australian Year 11 or a comparable educational level in their home country. At least 17 years of age at commencement.

What can you expect from the Foundation Studies program?

Students will be in class four to five days per week.

Expectation of 24 contact hours and 12 independent study hours per week.

What you will learn

Typically, students will start their day with the core topic and end with the key learning areas.

Each study period, they will study a core topic (English, Numeracy, Study Skills) and a key learning area (Arts, HASS, Science, Maths).
Activities in Key Learning Areas (Arts, HASS, Science, Maths) will coordinate with the core skills taught to reinforce learning and give students every opportunity and support to achieve their learning goals.
English language support that is integrated with numeracy, study skills and key learning areas.

Support classes

Support classes provide students with further opportunity to accelerate their learning and focus on skill areas that they would like to improve. These classes can provide tailored English language content and activities to prepare students for the field of study in their destination degree.

Your pathway to a Flinders degree

Our Foundation Studies program is specially designed for Year 11 graduates (or equivalent) to learn the essential knowledge and academic skills required for their degree studies. The Foundation Studies Program can be packaged with nearly all undergraduate degrees offered by Flinders University. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Studies Program with the required grade, students will be able to meet both of the English language proficiency and academic background requirement for their chosen destination degree*.

*Please note some degrees such as Bachelor of Nursing (Pre-Registration) still requires students to provide compulsory IELTS result (or equivalent) before commencement.
