Northern Territory Medical Program
The Northern Territory Medical Program (NTMP) provides training to Flinders University and James Cook University medical students. We also coordinate placement opportunities and support for allied health students and interstate medical students.
Study with us
The Doctor of Medicine (MD) is offered in the Northern Territory (NT) through the NT Medical Program.
Whether you are a school leaver or university graduate, the NTMP allows you to undergo your entire medical training in the NT.
The Flinders MD recognises and values the contribution that Indigenous knowledge and Indigenous doctors make to the health of our country. Our Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff will lead you to a greater understanding of this heritage and teach you how to work safely and confidently in a multicultural society.
We have a strong commitment to building the rural and remote health workforce by delivering innovative clinical placements. Medical students in the NT have the opportunity to undertake an entire year or more of study in a remote area.
History
In 2011, an inaugural group of 24 students enrolled in first year of the medical program at its brand new, purpose-built building at Charles Darwin University campus.
The NTMP has an administration centre and teaching rooms at the Royal Darwin Hospital, as well as established teaching sites in Alice Springs, Katherine and Nhulunbuy.
The NTMP prides itself on the quality of education provided to students and the support offered through the program to the medical and health workforce across the Territory.
Curriculum delivery is innovative using the latest technologies to ensure quality presentation in a variety of settings - from Flinders University in suburban Adelaide to Nhulunbuy, one of the most remote medical program sites in Australia.
The NTMP is part of the Flinders NT academic unit within the School of Medicine.
The NTMP works closely with other Flinders NT initiatives including:
- The Poche Centre for Indigenous Health and Well-being Alice Springs
- Centre for Remote Health
- Palmerston Super Clinic
The University has a strategic commitment that Flinders NT activities will be undertaken in close collaboration with Charles Darwin University.
