SACHRU undertook to work with the YWCA to evaluate its youth service, Y-Express based in Victor Harbor and servicing the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island. Y-Express provides counselling, group work and community development to young people with the objectives of addressing and diverting them from drugs and drug-related harm, building self-esteem, resilience and imparting life-skills. They provide counselling and group programs in local high schools and after-school activities such as an art group. Y-Express also works on community activities including training and providing peer support workers for the annual 'Schoolies' festival and drug debates with local high school students in Drug Action Week. SACHRU is undertaking analysis of data already collected on Y-Express programs and also conducting interviews and focus groups with former clients and other agencies dealing with young people in the area. We are also providing training to Y-Express staff to enable them to undertake their own evaluation and data analysis and reporting in the future.
