Tucked off to one side of Flinders’ Bedford Park campus sits an unusual building; its glass-walled perimeter becoming even more interesting as dusk falls and the lights inside illuminate the students and the exotic musical instruments within.
The Pendopo houses the gamelan, a traditional Indonesian instrument ensemble, and stands as a testament to the strong ties between Flinders and Indonesia. Students learning Indonesian have the opportunity to learn this ancient music form and perform for various University events.
The Pendopo also provides a focus for cultural activities for the local Indonesian community.
