This is a whole-of-community effort, bringing together our staff, students and retailers to improve standards and processes, so that we can avoid waste production, take back used materials where possible and/or use more sustainable alternatives.
Our waste management system incorporates colour-coded bins – making them easy-to-use and helping to avoid contamination.
Bin signage incorporates images of the waste to guide you how to separate waste into our four main waste streams.

E-waste needs to be properly collected and recycled, due to the toxic and hazardous materials it contains. Up to 95% of these materials can be reused or recycled.
E-waste must be dropped off at specialised recycling drop-off points. This is essential to prevent fire hazards and the release of various toxic substances and materials into the soil and waterways. Additionally, it ensures that valuable resources such as precious metals are recovered and recycled.
At Flinders, our Information and Digital Services team recycles electrical and electronic equipment such as old laptops, desktop computers, monitors, cables, screens and more through Electronic Recycling Australia.
Electronic Recycling Australia is an initiative of Minda providing services to people living with disability through sustainable employment, and enriches their lives through greater community participation and contribution.
There are plenty of opportunities for our Flinders community to be involved in sustainability on campus.
