Welcome to the Nursing Leadership Mentoring Program in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS).
The Nursing Leadership Mentoring Program has been developed in conjunction with the annual Flinders University Joan Durdin AM Oration to connect Flinders University graduates with established Healthcare Leaders (preferably Flinders Alumni).
The purpose of the program is to facilitate mutually beneficial mentoring relationships that provide students an opportunity to connect with an established healthcare leader to develop their leadership skills.
Mentors will enjoy the opportunity to influence the mentees confidence and knowledge while developing their leadership skills.
Mentees will benefit from the support and advice of an experienced nurse leader to further develop the skills needed to become a highly effective healthcare leader.
Mentoring in nursing can be hugely rewarding for mentors and mentees. The collaborative confidential relationship gives mentors the opportunity to give back to their profession and support leadership development. On the flipside, mentees gain knowledge, become empowered, build confidence, and develop skills to become an effective leader in healthcare.

The program helped me develop my skill set as a mentor and give me insight into middle management in health.

“
I would most certainly recommend participating in the program. It has enhanced my confidence and communication skills; while giving me a sense of how positive leadership models can be applied within the workforce.
”
“
My mentor really helped me to examine the many ways in which leadership skills can be applied to both my everyday practice and in the achievement of my personal leadership goals. Suffice to say; participation in the program has far exceeded my expectations, and has given me the momentum to develop a plan of how to best achieve my leadership goals going into the future.
