Live streamed 7 - 8 March 2022
Cross-cultural perspectives on Arab's gender equality: A virtual study tour, convened by Dr Ashokkumar (Ashok) Manoharan and Associate Professor Janice (Jane) Jones, was held on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th March at Flinders University's campus on Victoria Square.
The program was live streamed to participants in Adelaide, Australia and Dubai, UAE.
In 2020, gender inequalities continued to constrain women’s economic participation in the Arab Gulf states (World Bank, 2021). This project comprises a virtual study tour and research project that aims to enhance cross-cultural understanding of the barriers to, and opportunities for, effective gender diversity management. A key aim of the project is to generate novel, nuanced understandings about the various ways in which gender and culture intersect to shape outcomes for women in the workplace. Australian students and academics from Flinders University will engage with their counterparts from Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dubai, and with industry leaders in Dubai, in a series of virtual events.
Events will include online workshops, virtual networking, and virtual cultural experiences, including virtual participation in the Dubai Expo on International Women’s Day. The project will facilitate greater mutual awareness and understanding of gender equality in the Arab Gulf states.
