Hear from Dr R.V. Gundur as he shares his experiences travelling from the US-Mexico border to Phoenix and then to Chicago, interviewing dozens of people from law enforcement personnel to street and prison gang members. In his new book Trying to Make It: The Enterprises, Gangs, and People of the American Drug Trade, R.V. examines the struggles of the people behind the US drag trade and the reasons for the path they've chosen in life.
R.V is a criminologist and senior lecturer at Flinders University. Growing up in Springfield, Illinois, in the United States, a city famous for Abraham Lincoln, basketballer Andre Iguodala, and the 1908 race riot that started civil rights organisation the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. R.V. is the author of new book Trying to Make It: The Enterprises, Gangs, and People of the American Drug Trade, which follows his journey from the US-Mexico border to America's heartland in search of the true story of the drug trade and its participants.
R.V. previously taught for the University of Liverpool in Singapore where he lectured on cybercrime and transnational organised crime. He is the prize chair for the International Association for the Study of Organised Crime (IASOC).
