The Limestone Coast Regional Training Hub is located at the Flinders University Rural and Remote Health SA Mount Gambier campus and works closely with the Limestone Coast Local Health Network Medical Education Unit (LCLHN MEU), Mt Gambier Hospital and general practices to create rewarding rural training experiences for all within the region.
Regional Training Hubs (RTHs) are an initiative of the Commonwealth Department of Health, designed to support medical workforce recruitment and retention in rural and regional areas.
The Hubs’ focus is on the whole of the rural medical training pipeline which includes medical students, pre-vocational graduates, vocational trainees, as well as rural generalists, general practitioners, medical specialists, and clinical supervisors.
Presentation of abstracts at conferences, research work, and medical event attendance is encouraged, and funding/sponsorship is often offered via a competitive process. Terms & Conditions will apply.
A fortnightly training calendar is distributed to keep all up to date and allow for future planning and organising leave. This will include any upcoming medical education and training opportunities, events, and conferences conducted by the RTH and external stakeholders.
The Regional Medical Training website is a rural medical career planning tool used to illustrate the various training opportunities and posts available to medical students and junior doctors.
This site covers specialty training information, a visual timeline of training, printable PDF’s with detailed information, an interactive map, contact details of regional hubs and supporting resources.
This initiative represents the collaboration of 17 of the 26 hubs funded by the Australian Government to support the rural medical workforce. It covers regional SA, VIC, TAS and NSW.
Our local campus provides students and medical trainees with video-conference and lecture facilities, consulting rooms, a large clinical practice workshop suite, and common facilities including a kitchen and library.
A Learning Centre with a comfortable, friendly, and safe working environment is available from 7:00am to 10:00pm.
Flinders University Rural and Remote Health SA has a large presence in our State's regional areas, including Barossa Valley, Hills Mallee Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island, Mid North and Yorke Peninsula, Riverland, South East and Far North and Eyre Peninsula.
