Student Scholarships
As a visionary leader in international humanitarian work, Anne Morris (BNgSt ’87, BNg ’88, MPHC ‘01) has spent much of her life helping those in need of critical support. A Flinders University graduate, she now shares her philanthropic ethos by donating to students in financial need.
Anne first studied at Flinders in the 1980s, when degrees were free and jobs were plentiful. Nearly 40 years on, the world is a very different place and Anne understands the incredible opportunity she had to study at the University.
“At Flinders I studied under some of the best teachers and educators available,” says Anne. “It has had such a big impact on my life and career. Without my degree from Flinders I wouldn’t have been able to work overseas in humanitarian work or in Indigenous health in regional Australia.”
Anne was the first in her family to achieve a university degree. She now wants to give back so that others also have the opportunities she experienced at Flinders.
“There is enough stress in the world today that students should not have to worry about whether they can afford to buy a text book or put petrol in their car to get to university,” says Anne. “By donating to Flinders scholarships I feel like I can directly help a student.”
Anne hopes that by supporting Student Impact Scholarships there will be substantially less students dropping out of their studies as a result of not having the critical funds to keep them going.
She says, “I would not like to see anyone give up on their university degree because of money.”
Anne believes that a university is only as good as its reputation – which can be enhanced by giving back. “If all alumni gave back to the university that helped them get to where they are today, we would have such a great impact on the next generation of students and on the university’s reputation. Collectively we could make Flinders the best university it’s ever been.”
Financial scholarships relieve financial pressures for students which allows them to focus on their study, complete their degree and work towards their personal career goals.
We need your support to continue to provide financial scholarships to students through the Matthew Flinders Scholarship.
100% of your tax-deductible donation will be support students in financial need.
