Adelaide Theatre & More Social Club
Adelaide Theatre & More Social Club is investing in the future of performing arts by supporting our Honours acting and directing students to launch their careers.
Flinders Drama Centre students gain world-class training in performing arts, and our graduates are ready to light up stages, cinemas and TV with their talent. But training and talent alone are not enough to succeed in the industry - graduates must transform their skills into experience and gain vital industry connections.
As they head towards the end of their demanding four-year Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama) Honours degree, the pressure is on to have professional head shots, audition at every opportunity, perform in a showcase to industry, and travel interstate to meet with agents.
“Each November, the students present work they have created in a public performance at the Adelaide Festival Centre,” says Drama Centre Manager Dr Christopher Hurrell.

“We also provide a live-stream of the performance to over 600 key industry representatives nationally.”
Immediately following the live-stream event, the students travel to Sydney and Melbourne to meet in person with agents and other industry figures, to seal the deal for representation and potentially book their first professional performance opportunity.
Footing the bill for these expenses can be tough for the students, whose demanding degree allows little time for part-time work to cover living expenses, let alone these additional costs.
Fortunately, local theatre social group Adelaide Theatre & More Social Club saw the opportunity in investing in this year’s graduating group of ten by supporting costs involved in their end of year showcase and follow up interstate travel.
The club’s generous contribution will help the students establish the connections, representation, exposure and mentoring essential for launching their performing arts careers.
“The funding will not only relieve the stress of having to finance the end of year trip; it will guarantee that our work, and in turn the four years of training at Flinders, will receive the audience it deserves,” says drama student Franca Lafosse.
“It will ensure that all graduates can put their best foot forward and enter the industry at a national level with confidence and agency.”
A big thank you to Adelaide Theatre & More Social Club for their commitment to investing in the development of theatre and the performing arts in South Australia and beyond.
