Adelaide Theatre & More Scholarship for Honours in Performing Arts.
Thanks to the generous support of Adelaide Theatre & More Social Club, two performing arts honours students at Flinders University are honing their skills and expanding their connections in the arts industry.
Adelaide Theatre & More provides its members with social opportunities to see local stage and screen performances. In 2021 the group wanted to deepen their support for the arts so created the Adelaide Theatre & More Scholarships for Honours Performing Arts at Flinders.
Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama) honours student Rhys Stewart is focused on cultivating his acting skills and creating meaningful connections within the performing arts industry. While he has always wanted to be an actor, Rhys says it’s not without its challenges including the financial pressures of supporting himself while studying.
This year, Rhys received a $5,000 Adelaide Theatre & More Scholarship for Honours Performing Arts, which has provided both personal and professional benefits, including being able to afford to experience local performances to broaden his understanding of the performing arts.
He says, ‘It has also made it less stressful to consider how I am to pay for important resources and equipment, such as lighting for my home-based film set, which contributes to my degree.’
The scholarship will also enable Rhys to travel to Sydney and Melbourne for his end of year acting showcase – an essential step in his acting career.

Duncan Vecchiarelli grew up in Italy and Scotland, but since 2008 he has called Adelaide home.
He knew from the age of three that he would pursue a career in the performing arts, and since studying Creative Arts at Flinders Duncan has his sights set on directing and writing performances.
During pandemic restrictions Duncan found it difficult not being able to interact with fellow creatives to develop work and stay motivated.
With the support of a $5,000 Adelaide Theatre & More Scholarship for Honours Perfoming Arts, he purchased a Zoom Pro License to host online rehearsals and upgraded his webcam, microphone and software – enabling him to enhance the quality of recording a live performance from home.
‘Relearning how to reach out and interact with my peers online during this time has proved to be my greatest challenge, but one that was extremely rewarding to overcome,’ says Duncan.

'I have also been able to use the scholarship funds to hire a cast of quality actors to help me realise a full production of the script I am writing as part of my degree.'
Grateful for the support during such a difficult time, especially for those in the arts industry, Duncan says, 'I would like to thank all the donors who funded my scholarship and importantly for supporting emerging artists whose research and practical work is pushing new ground in the world of theatre and the arts.'
You can help students like Rhys and Duncan reach their goals by donating to student scholarships at Flinders University. 100% of your tax-deductible donation will support students at Flinders University to focus on their studies and work towards their career goals.
