Student scholarships making an impact

Nina was supported with a financial hardship scholarship that allowed her to focus on her studies.

Nina Nguyen is studying a Doctor of Medicine at Flinders University. As a high achieving student in financial need, Nina received a scholarship to assist her to continue to learn and develop as she progresses in her degree.

Nina was born and raised in Adelaide, but her parents were refugees from Vietnam.

“My parents were refugees and didn’t have the opportunity to have a tertiary education so it has always been important to me,” said Nina.

“Being from a low-socio economic background, a scholarship helped me to financially support my learning by purchasing textbooks and study equipment. It has also helped motivate me to keep on going toward my goals. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to study and make a difference in my life and in the lives of others.” 

Imagine not having the opportunity to study because you couldn’t afford to buy the basic items required for study such as textbooks, the cost of transport to get to university or living expenses such as accommodation.
