Client Services Officer in the International Student Services team at Flinders International
Daily work is all about student matters; from personal phone calls, email and face-to-face enquiries, to activities and services that I am involved in planning and implementing.
Freedom, autonomy and creativity. I have the chance to explore and investigate the students’ real needs by working with them, and then planning out what I can do to support them under the university policy.
It's very rewarding.
At the moment, I am doing the R U OK?Day event in collaboration with Flinders Library and international student volunteers.
RUOK?Day is a national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs.
We are going to deliver an origami session on R U OK?Day to teach participants how to make paper hearts. Based on the concept that a conversation can change a life and it’s good to ask around “R U OK?” to show our care and support with each other. This event allows Flinders students and staff to make conversation and build connections with each other while doing the origami.
In the end, all the paper hearts will be stuck on the glass wall in the library to contribute to a big warm heart and represent the inclusive and warm Flinders community.
History Section, Level 3, Central Library. Biography and history are the two areas I am really interested in. Usually when I walk up to the history section, level 3 of the library, I would pick a historical book and sit alongside the window to read. It’s a quiet and secret spot for me in the university.
I would recommend the natural scenery in Adelaide, particularly Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Summit Hike trails. Over the weekend, when the weather is nice, it’s always nice to go out to do some exercise with my friends. I believe this hike trail is one of the most popular ones around Adelaide because of the beautiful natural scenery along the way.
Also, when we climb up to Mount Lofty and have a fantastic view standing at the top, looking out on the vista of Adelaide, the plains and out to sea. It’s just amazing and also gives me a sense of achievement that I have literally reached the summit.
Studying overseas is a big decision in your lifetime. From my personal experience of being an international student at Flinders University, I would say the opportunity of studying here has changed my life in a really positive way.
I hope students can give it a try as well and embrace the changes.
