Mary-Jean Richardson is an artist based in South Australia. A graduate from Adelaide Central School of Art, Mary-Jean completed a Research Masters at the School of Art, Architecture and Design, University of South Australia. Her practice is motivated by the interplay of painting and history, in particular painting’s mobility, mutability and capacity for reinvention.
Mary-Jean has received various awards and grants to further her research and practice, including the inaugural Australian Experimental Art Foundation British School at Rome Studio Residency. Her recent exhibitions include Relics and Ruins, a collaborative exhibition with Anna Gore; Ancient & Modern Adelaide Central Gallery; and Love in the time of COVID-19 at the Art Gallery of South Australia. She is a lecturer and Painting Department Head at Adelaide Central School of Art, and a founding member of Gresham Studios, an experimental studio and exhibition space in Adelaide.
