Associate Professor Alistair Standish is the Course Coordinator of the Master of Biotechnology at Flinders University. Alistair obtained his PhD in Microbiology at the University of Adelaide in 2006, with a focus on the pathogenesis of the world’s foremost bacterial pathogen, Streptococcus pneumoniae. He then undertook a postdoctoral research position at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, before returning to the University of Adelaide in 2010 and continuing his bacterial pathogenesis research, resulting in several successful grants and publications. In 2016, he accepted a lecturing position teaching into the Master of Biotechnology at the University of Adelaide. For the past 8 years, he has been involved in teaching and coordinating topics within this course, resulting in numerous awards for teaching excellence for his curriculum development and knowledge, and his innovative teaching pedagogies. In 2024, Alistair moved to Flinders University as the Course Coordinator of the Master of Biotechnology.
Alistair has over 20 years of teaching and research experience in the Biotechnology sphere both in Australia and internationally. He is passionate about supporting students, particularly international, in their learning experience so that they can achieve to the best of their abilities, and ensure they are fully prepared for their future biotechnology careers.
