Dr. Gihan Gunasekara is an experienced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) professional specialising in Enterprise Networking and Cybersecurity. With over 24 years of industry experience, he has developed a deep understanding of securing network infrastructures and mitigating cybersecurity threats. His academic qualifications include a PhD, MSc, MBA, and BSc (Hons), equipping him with theoretical and practical expertise across diverse industries, including healthcare, higher education, vocational training, recreation and leisure.
Dr. Gunasekara’s career has been dedicated to addressing the dynamic challenges in cybersecurity. He has focused on threat landscaping, modelling, and implementing robust security protocols to protect sensitive data and networks. He has gained critical insights into safeguarding digital assets against an ever-evolving threat landscape. His expertise is designing and implementing comprehensive security measures to provide end-to-end security for Enterprise Networks.
In addition to his professional work, Dr. Gunasekara’s research actively involves industry engagement. He collaborates with leading organisations to develop practical solutions to real-world cybersecurity challenges. This blend of industry and academic collaboration enables him to bridge the gap between theoretical research and practical application, ensuring his work is directly relevant to the needs of businesses and institutions.
Dr. Gunasekara is also an active member of the Flinders Digital Health Research Centre and CISCO Digital Health Design Lab, where he participates in cutting-edge research initiatives focused on applied problem-solving and design-driven approaches to Cybersecurity and Network Security challenges.
His research interests focus on Cybersecurity, particularly proactive defence security and the application of next-generation technologies in securing networks. Dr. Gunasekara is particularly passionate about the intersection of Cybersecurity and Enterprise Networking, exploring innovative solutions to tackle emerging cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
He has been recognised for his academic achievements, receiving the prestigious Chancellor's Letter of Commendation for his MSc in Computer Science.

I am passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of networking and cybersecurity professionals. My teaching interests span from foundational to advanced levels, and I currently teach Introduction to Networks, Switching & Routing, Enterprise Networking and Security.
I am dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive understanding of networking concepts, starting with the basics and progressing to more complex, real-world applications. Through hands-on learning and problem-solving, I ensure that students not only grasp the theoretical foundations but also develop practical skills in securing and managing enterprise networks. My approach fosters critical thinking and prepares students to address both current and emerging challenges in the field of networking and cybersecurity.
