As an academic-clinician since 2012 at Flinders University, Grant has undertaken a diverse range of educational leadership roles, with an emphasis on the redevelopment of both undergraduate & postgraduate paramedicine curriculum. By combining relevant clinical education theory to the discipline-specific demands of the out-of-hospital environment, Grant has initiated curriculum renewal across topics such as electrophysiology (2018), neurological emergencies (2019), and applied paramedic practice (2022). Additionally, in 2020 as Course Co-ordinator for the Graduate Diploma in Intensive Care Paramedicine (GDICPM), Grant engaged both industry leaders and tertiary clinical education experts in designing and creating a fit-for-purpose curriculum to support the unique educational needs of intensive care paramedics.
With his connection with industry as a registered intensive care paramedic (ICP), Grant has been involved in a diverse range of clinical education redevelopments across the spectrum of paramedicine both nationally and internationally. These initiatives include a study-tour of the volunteer ambulance services within Israel (Magen David Adom) & Palestine (Red Crescent Society), a joint collaboration with St Johns Ambulance Service Malaysia (Penang) to provide online and in-country skills intensives for their paid and volunteer staff, and supporting Australian paramedics as a clinical educator and on-road mentor.
Research interests have been focused (1) Ketamine-induced emergent reactions, (2) recruitment and retention of volunteer ambulance officers, (3) on the development of a discipline-specific curriculum for paramedics and intensive care paramedics. This is the focus of his current research projects of his Doctor of Philosophy.
