Jane commenced working as a Diabetes Specialist Nurse in 1992 with St Peters Community Health Service and in 1996 she achieved Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) credentialing. In 1998 Jane transferred to Diabetes Outreach at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, to Country Health SA and then more recently the Rural Suppost Service, Diabetes Service.
During the past 30 years Jane has contributed to diabetes multidisciplinary teams at international and national levels, including
• Member of the International Diabetes Federation
• Consultant Diabetes Nurse Specialist for AusAID (Fiji, Tuvalu and Vanuatu)
• Chair of the ADEA International Partnerships Committee
• Board Director and Chair of ADEA
• Director of Diabetes Australia (DA) Ltd Board
• Member of the Australian Diabetes Society
• Member of the Australian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society.
Working in collaboration with universities and key organisations to strengthen evidence to practice, Jane has also published 20 articles, been the lead or associate researcher on 21 funded and unfunded diabetes projects and presented at 43 conferences.
Within SA Health, the RSS Diabetes Service and the regional Local Health Networks, Jane has facilitated the establishment of the regional LHN Diabetes Specialist Nurses Network and provided and facilitated advanced practice education for regional diabetes specialist nurses. With Jane’s leadership these diabetes specialist nurses were among the first to introduce remote monitoring in country and amongst the first to use videoconferencing for education of country health professionals that complimented the travelling roadshow model.
Jane has been particularly keen to develop and maintain diabetes protocols and procedures for a consistent regional-wide approach. This work has been fundamental to the safety and quality of diabetes care and education in regional LHN hospitals and health services.
Jane has demonstrated commitment to our First Nations People through the provision of clinical services via the Kakarrara Willurrara Health Alliance, Tullawon Health Service and Oak Valley Health Service. Whilst Jane has resigned from SA Health, she continues clinical work with Aboriginal health services.
