Melanie Amarasooriya is a practicing trauma and orthopaedic surgeon from Sri Lanka. She is also a senior lecturer at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, teaching both medical and engineering undergraduate students. Melanie completed hand and upper limb fellowships in the United Kingdom and Australia. She completed her PhD in wrist biomechanics at Flinders University of South Australia.
She received Flinders University Research Scholarship and Australian Federation for University Women centenary scholarship during her candidature. Melanie also received Asia Pacific Wrist Association travelling fellowship in 2019 and International Federation of the Societies for the Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH) travelling fellowship in 2024.
Her research interests are wrist biomechanics, 4D CT, carpal instability and wrist ligament reconstruction.
