Rachel is a passionate and dedicated professional with a diverse background in human services, law, and education. Rachel has 18 years’ experience as a police officer, with 8 years as a first responder, before specialising as an in-court prosecutor in the Family and Domestic Violence Sector. Rachel’s most recent practice-based experience has been as a Senior Social Worker with the Department for Child Protection, investigating child abuse notifications with a focus on early intervention and preventative strategies with families who have come in contact with the child protection system.

 

Rachel is a member of the Australian Centre for Child Protection Advisory Board (HDR representative).

Master in Teaching

Doctor of Philosophy, PhD (ongoing)

 

Rachel completed her Certificate IV in Justice Studies and a Diploma of Public Safety (Policing) while training at the Fort Largs Police Academy to become a police officer. Rachel also holds a Bachelor of Social work from the University of South Australia. In 2021, she completed her Master in Teaching and is registered with the Teachers Board of South Australia.

Rachel is currently undertaking a PhD and is a RTPd PhD scholarship recipient with Education Futures at the University of South Australia and the Australian Centre for Child Protection. Her research is entitled ‘Australia Police responses to children’s harmful sexual behaviour’. Rachel's research is examining police knowledge, responses, use of discretion and current diversionary options for children displaying harmful sexualised behaviours.

Rachel’s commitment to public service has been recognised and awarded with the South Australian Police Diligent and Ethical Service Medal, the Emergency Response Service Medal, the National Service Medal, and the National Police Service Medal.
