Sharee has extensive experience working with diverse communities and cultures and has volunteered in Cambodia on numerous occasions in an outreach capacity. She has a Graduate Certificate in Rehabilitation and Service Coordination through La Trobe university and has previously worked in case coordination roles with the Royal Society for the Blind and ECH, as well as an Early Childhood Intervention Consultant with Child and Family Health Services. Sharee has been employed in the higher education sector since 2019, with her primary experience being in student support roles predominantly in the health and medical science faculty. In her current role as a Disability Advisor, Sharee works to ensure that all students’ have access to an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Sharee is passionate about animal rights and humanitarian aid. She is an avid animal and beach lover, and when not at work she enjoys spending time with her family and travelling.

Disability Advisor at Flinders University

Responsibilities:                                                                 

Working under broad direction the Disability Advisor (DA) assists the University to meet its obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.  The DA supports students to participate in university studies by addressing disability or other related issues that impact on the ability to participate equitably in University life.  The Disability Advisor will support academic and professional staff to understand and implement accommodations to facilitate students learning and assessment needs. 

  • Provide advice to students and prospective students regarding disability and equitable learning support arrangements, reasonable adjustments, assistive technology and relevant policies and procedures.
  • Assess the learning impacts for students with disability, including long-term medical conditions and/or mental health conditions and determine reasonable adjustments to support students in their studies.
  • Implement and monitor reasonable adjustments in collaboration with relevant professional and academic staff, particularly for students with complex requirements.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and information to professional and academic University staff regarding legislative requirements and obligations and how these may be met.
  • Provide advice and guidance to academic and professional staff to understand and implement reasonable adjustments to facilitate the learning and assessment needs of students with a disability.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of disability-related policies and action plans within the University.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate training, workshops and programs to students and staff that focus on disability awareness, access, and inclusion.
  • Liaise with and refer to external service providers as necessary.
  • Maintain confidential student records and collecting relevant data.
