Troy Piechnick was born in Adelaide, Australia and studied at Flinders University. He was previously a middle school educator and taught for a number of years at Flinders University. In 2018 Troy held an Associate Lecturers position in the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work and taught predominately in the areas of Health Education and Curriculum Studies. In 2019 Troy won the position of Lecturer: Curriculum Studies - History, HASS and Geography in the same College where he taught in a number of undergraduate topics as well as fulfilling HASS coordination duties. In 2021 Troy became the Secondary Program Coordinator for the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work. In 2022, Troy won the position of Deputy Teaching Program Director and was promoted to Senior Lecturer.
