Alastair Hunter OAM Medical Scholarship

Established in 2024, this scholarship addresses the urgent need for skilled physicians by supporting students in the final three years of the Doctor of Medicine program at Flinders University's College of Medicine and Public Health. The Scholarship’s primary goal is to ensure that financial disadvantage does not hinder access to medical education for promising students with the potential to excel in the practise of medicine.

Benefits

The scholarships will be awarded from 2025 will have a value of $6,500 per annum, for a maximum of three years. The scholarship will be paid in equal instalments after the census date of each semester. The number of scholarships will be determined by available funding.

Eligibility

Applicants for the Scholarship must:

• be an Australian citizen; and

• be commencing the second year of the Doctor of Medicine program; and

• be able to demonstrate financial hardship; and

• be a permanent resident of South Australia.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded based on academic excellence, based on GPA at the time of admission into the Doctor of Medicine program, financial need, and disadvantaged background. Selection will be undertaken by a panel comprising representatives from the College of Medicine and Public Health and Student Administrative Services.
