The Playford Trust in partnership with Clean Seas, offers a two-year scholarship to a student commencing their third-year of undergraduate studies and who is prepared to undertake a fourth year of study in aquaculture, at one of South Australia’s three public universities.
Clean Seas is the global leader in full cycle breeding, production, and sale of Yellowtail Kingfish and is renowned world-wide for its exceptionally high-quality fish. The company is recognised for innovation in Yellowtail Kingfish farming and has become the largest producer of aquaculture Yellowtail Kingfish outside of Japan. Its customers appreciate the consistently high quality of its fish and its reliability in supplying fresh fish to markets all over the world, 52 weeks of the year.
The paid work placements will give the successful applicant the opportunity to develop skills and enhance their industry participation. They will undertake several technical projects to solve real problems and apply university knowledge in an industry setting. Working closely with the senior managers they will properly understand and identify the problem, undertake analysis and develop/design and implement solutions. At the end of each placement, they will make a presentation to senior site management and senior site technical personnel on the projects undertaken including, methodology used, success of the project, knowledge gained and feedback on the industry experience.
We recommend you begin your application as soon as possible and complete as much as you can this year. This allows the Trust to give your name to Clean Seas early.
The scholarship is valued at $10,000 per year, for two years.
The scholarship also involves a paid 8-10 week work placement over the summer vacation before the student’s third and fourth year of studies. The work experience is likely to be at the Clean Seas fish breeding and production facility at Arno Bay and in Clean Seas fish health and R&D teams in Port Lincoln. Clean Seas will provide accommodation. The student will have the opportunity to work with Clean Seas on a suitable project in their fourth year and Clean Seas may offer another work placement opportunity at the end of that fourth year.
