The Student-Alumni Mentoring Program (StAMP) connects current final year Arts students with mentors from a related professional sector of the University’s alumni community.
Our student mentees tell us what they are looking for in a mentor, what they hope to get out of the mentoring relationship, and what career direction they want to take when they have completed their studies. We then match them with a mentor who can provide the student with the right guidance to help them work towards achieving those goals.
Mentors in this Program will be alumni of Flinders University, currently employed, with at least one year of professional work experience.
The Program is facilitated by University staff who will support you and your mentee throughout the process. We’ll also provide you with some general guidelines and the opportunity to meet face to face with student mentees and other mentors at Program events.
There will be two StAMP networking events, one at the start of the Program and one at completion of the Program. These are optional to attend.
From April to November you will have eight mentoring sessions with your mentee. That’s roughly one session per month. You will negotiate with your mentee whether these sessions will be held over the phone, or face to face, or a combination of both. You may have more sessions if you and your mentee wish to.
Depending on what is discussed and agreed with your mentee, you may also need to review materials prior to meetings, or attend activities and events. Participating in these activities will be at your discretion.
The StAMP is open to final year and honours Arts students. Our students come from a diverse range of backgrounds and are studying across a variety of programs within the Creative Arts and Bachelor of Arts. Students must apply and be accepted into the Program. They will also attend a preparation workshop.
We provide all new mentors with guidelines and an opportunity to participate in an optional face-to-face professional coaching workshop prior to the start of the Program.
Mentors will be matched with mentees based on career outcomes or area of expertise, as specified in the application process.
Students indicate their mentoring preferences at the time of application and mentors are matched with students based on these preferences. Students attend a preparation workshop to ensure they are prepared for the experience.
If you are currently mentoring a student and would like to formalise this relationship within the StAMP please contact the Program administrator to advise them of this.
Registrations open in January 2021 and close in April 2021.
No, there is no requirement for you to come onto campus, however you have the option to attend the networking events if you wish. Meetings with your mentee need to be scheduled at a location and time which is suitable for you.
