I believe that hoping for a better future can inspire us to act and bring change. This idea of hope has always motivated me to work diligently and actively.
The Flinders VC Scholarship has provided me with the opportunity to explore the scholar world and form my own ideas. It has helped me by creating an environment of learning and professional growth.
I really appreciate the way my degree has challenged me to take a closer look at the existing societal structures. I am grateful to have numerous guest speakers who have talked about their field of expertise and their lived experiences. My favourite topic to study has been ‘Decolonising Social Work’, as it provided me with an opportunity to learn about Australian history and learn about social work from a fresh lens.
I chose to study in Australia as I found this to be an opportunity to explore one of the most liveable cities. I have always been fascinated by the Australian cultural and geographical diversity found here. Lastly, I wanted to become a part of the well-versed social work community of Australia.
My favourite thing about studying in Adelaide is that I have been able to engage in thought-provoking conversations with my peers from culturally diverse backgrounds. I have been privileged to learn about their lived experiences and build strong bonds over a cup of coffee.
The values that are most important to me are kindness and humility. I believe that if we acknowledge our position in society and reflect on the power structures, we can understand the importance of being a humble and kind person. I have been inspired by Mahatma Gandhi who held the position of a leader yet continued to be humble and kind to all.
In my free time, I usually like to get into my creative side and paint. My favourite artwork is The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh and I love re-creating it in my own style.
The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green
I would like to be an immortal explorer, as I am fascinated by the mysteries of the world. I would love to be able to uncover the depths of the sea!
