Science and Engineering additions and changes for 2023 and beyond
The only South Australian university to offer a degree in Geospatial Information Systems will - from 2024 - offer students the exciting opportunity to also enrol in the Bachelor of Surveying, opening up a unique double degree pathway.
Students should select the Bachelor of Geospatial Information Systems course (SATAC code 244721) in 2023 and will be able to transfer to the second year of the double degree in 2024.
The proposed surveying degree is designed to meet the Surveyors Board of South Australia requirements to become a Licensed Surveyor, giving graduates of this double degree huge employability in an already in-demand area.
Bachelor of Information Technology (Machine Learning)
Bachelor of Information Technology (Machine Learning) (Honours)
The new degree for 2023 will be teaching students the skills they need to develop the next generation of machine learning and artificial intelligence based applications.
Students will learn the cutting edge AI and machine learning techniques and tools required to harness neural networks, write innovative software and put themselves at the front of the line for the most in-demand jobs and careers in areas as varied as high finance, medical diagnosis, speech recognition and autonomous vehicle design.
Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Analytics)
Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Analytics) (Honours)
This specialisation focusses on teaching students how to extract, collect and understand data gathered from information-rich environments - such as commercial and government organisations - and help them use that information to solve complex data engineering problems.
With ever increasing amounts of information being collected about our lives, graduates from the Data Analytics degree will have the knowledge to discern what is valuable, and what isn't, making them indispensable to companies or organisations that are looking for greater efficiencies and cutting edge processes.
Bachelor of Information Technology (Business and Information Systems)
Bachelor of Information Technology (Business and Information Systems) (Honours)
This IT specialisation prepares students for a career in industries such as commerce, education, industry and government in roles such as consultants, project managers, enterprise systems specialists and business analysts.
It combines both the theoretical and practical sides of IT and enterprise systems management, creating graduates that can effectively communicate with business professionals and technical computing teams, making them an extremely valuable commodity in a jobs market that prizes those that understand - and can communicate with - both.
All our current computing degrees are fully accredited by the Australian Computer Society at the professional level and these new degrees have been designed to be similarly accredited. They are subject to university approval, but details are available at the websites listed below and applications are currently being accepted through SATAC. As always, we offer direct entry to a 4-year honours version for those students with ATARs over 80.
We have been working hard with our industry partners to refine the mathematical requirements needed for software engineers and computer scientists and aligning those to the ACARA curricula and our mathematics teaching in the degrees. As a result, we have been able to change the course prerequisite for our Bachelor of Engineering (Software) (Honours) and Bachelor of Computer Science courses from SACE Mathematical Methods to SACE General Mathematics.
We are particularly pleased that this will make these courses available to applicants from those high schools where SACE Mathematical Methods is not directly available. Those students who do enter with SACE Mathematical Methods will have more flexibility in the topics they select in their course (note that the course prerequisite for our other Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) specialisations remains unchanged as they require the higher level of mathematics).
We offer appointments with our prospective student team to discuss career options, pathways, and course and entry requirements.
Tips, tricks and hacks for people who are looking to take their first steps into uni life.
