Why Open Days 2022 is an absolute must-see.
After a couple of years of lockdown, Flinders Open Days is back, bigger and better than ever, Friday 12 & Saturday 13 August 2022 with activities, demonstrations, food, fun and heaps happening.
Well, if you asked some of our students, they’d probably answer with three words… shark blood toothpaste. Ok, no. That sounds gross, but it does highlight 3 activities that have been student faves at Open Days.
There’s the not-as-gory-as-it-sounds shark dissection, where you can learn about shark anatomy and how scientists assess maturity and age in sharks. Blood spatter analysis sounds creepy, but it can help solve crimes as forensic scientists find out a lot about what took place at a crime scene. And there’s always something satisfying about watching hydrogen peroxide, yeast and dish soap explode into elephant’s toothpaste.
So, apart from sharks and blood spatters, what will the favourites be at this year’s Open Days? You can check out the animals in our new Biology Centre, tour the nursing simulation labs, complete with talking mannequins, take the Public Health Hard Quiz, solve an almost 300-year-old puzzle or check out our brand-new solar car. And that’s just a small sample of a program packed with activities.
What are our faves this year? Honestly, there’s too much to choose from, but here are three things we know you’ll love:
We offer one-on-one appointments with our prospective student team to discuss career options, pathways, and course and entry requirements.
The VOID.
An incredible 360-degree virtual reality experience featuring the sort of motion capture you’ll see in major Hollywood blockbusters, and the sort of tech used in productions like The Mandolorian.
Virtual Stock Exchange.
Explore what it feels like to stand of the floor of a real stock exchange. You’ll be given 15 minutes to see if you can grow your investment. The player with the largest growth in value wins a prize. Yelling ‘buy, sell’ in a New York accent is optional.
The Anatomage Table.
No sharks – but you can virtually explore human anatomy through an interactive 3D anatomy visualisation and virtual dissection tool. The Anatomage Table is absolutely state-of-the-art.
