MAKING UNIVERSITY WORK FOR YOUR CAREER

It’s the classic Catch-22.
“How do I get a job if I don’t have experience,
and how do I get experience if I don’t have a job?”
It’s an important consideration when you’re wondering how a uni degree can help get you the job you want.
Fortunately, Flinders has your back. Because our degrees offer real-life industry opportunities that give you the chance to develop the experience you need to land the job you want.
When we say we help you graduate work-ready, we mean it.
Flinders’ Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program improves your employability by giving you the opportunity to gain practical experience in a workplace setting, directly related to the course you’re studying.
You may take on a work placement, such as a clinical placement, internship, field education, vocational or professional practice. Or, you could be involved in a project with an industry or community organisation.
The important thing is; you’ll gain real-world experience. You’ll gain a feel for the work environment, you’ll work on actual industry projects and problems, you’ll develop key skills that you can leverage into a job and you’ll gain a practical edge that will help you crush that Catch-22.
Flinders’ integration with industry is an integral part of our teaching. Many of our lecturers are industry practitioners, from award-winning authors to scientists whose work is changing the world.
Your WIL experience is more than just a simple placement opportunity. You’ll gain a level of understanding of real-world expectations within your chosen field that will put you ahead of the pack.
There are many advantages to Work Integrated learning, such as:
building confidence in workplace capabilities
developing workplace skills including communication, team work, problem solving, critical thinking and professionalism
broadening professional networks and connections
increased understanding of the nature and standard of industry-required skills and a better appreciation of the world of work.
Flinders has strong links with industry, and interactions such as guest industry speakers will give you the chance to gain valuable insights from industry leaders.
Flinders’ Joblink Summits also bring industry figures onto campus, and are a great opportunity to speak one-on-one with potential employers and get some great tips and information that will help you start on the road to your new career.
Work Integrated Learning at Flinders helps you avoid the Catch-22 by giving you the experience you need to land the job of your dreams.
If you haven’t quite got around to starting uni, there’s no need to wait until next year.
