A great festival experience can be life-changing. Whether celebrating a major cultural occasion or highlighting a little-known facet of society, a festival is a celebration of all that makes us so wonderfully different.
If you’ve ever attended a festival, or arts event, and wondered how it all came to life, Flinders Bachelor of Creative Industries (Festivals and Arts Production) could be the degree for you.
In Adelaide alone, our festivals include the Adelaide Fringe Festival, WOMADelaide, SALA, Adelaide Film Festival, Feast Festival, Adelaide Festival, Dream Big Children’s Festival, Oz Asia, Adelaide Guitar Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, South Australia’s History Festival, and more. The list is growing every year.
Behind the scenes, the range of skills and knowledge required to stage a festival is amazing. You need to understand market trends, business, psychology, event management, user experience and behaviour. Roles range from festival director to event coordinator, with opportunities in marketing, finance, design, logistics, production and more. The skills you will develop are broad and transferrable across a variety of industries.
Developing a great festival takes passion, an eye for detail and a deep understanding of the field. Flinders’ close links with industry and association with Festivals Adelaide will give you the chance to gain a true understanding of how festivals are created, from the ground up. You’ll also gain hands-on experience in working as part of a multidisciplinary creative arts team to curate and produce your own site-specific arts events.
We offer appointments with our prospective student team to discuss career options, pathways, and course and entry requirements.
It doesn’t matter if you haven’t decided on your final career path. The Festivals and Arts sector is wide and varied, with a multitude of different career opportunities. Flinders Bachelor of Creative Industries (Festivals and Arts Production) will help you develop career-ready skills that could see you make your mark in the industry.
